I'm in the process of reviewing Pure Digital's Flip Video Camcorder for PC World. My initial take is that the compact camcorder is a worthy gift for Dads, grads, and nomads.
Video quality is about what you'd get with a high-end cell phone. In other words, we ain't talkin' HD. But the camcorder is extremely easy to operate--a young kid could use it, no problem. To transfer video to your PC, just pop out the camcorder's USB connector.
And the Flip's software makes uploading video clips to YouTube and Grouper pretty much a no-brainer. Plus, it's inexpensive. Two versions are available: one that holds 30 minutes of video ($120) and another that stores up to 60 minutes ($150). Amazon.com has the 60-minute version for $128.60. Check PC World's site in a couple of weeks for my full review.
I eagerly await your review of the Flip Video camcorder, not just because I trust your well-reasoned judgment, but also because I bought the 30-minute version just last weekend at Target (for about $100). I'd seen a product preview of it and thought it would be a foolproof video camera for times when I can't or don't want to fiddle and fuss with exposure settings, focusing, and the like. So far, it seems to have met my expectations.

I bought the Flip Video and loved the size, ease and design of it! Just perfect for carrying with me. But Darn. When I plugged it into my MacBook for the first time, my computer crashed. I was in shock. I turned off my computer and when I turned it back on everything thing was gone, my desktop, my mail, pictures, tunes, everything. Major bummer. I had such high hopes for the little Flip.

Could you give me advice whether the Flip Video Camcorder is better for a 11 year old girl than the Vidster?? Thanks
